June 17, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> The Belarusian National Olympic Committee (NOC) has expressed “incomprehension and indignation” regarding the non-admission of several unnamed Belarusian athletes, most likely wrestlers, to the Paris Olympics, its website says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Two days ago, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) said 11 Belarusian athletes had been approved to participate, noting that the list will be updated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The NOC announced earlier at least 30 Paris Olympics qualification places.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the IOC, Hanna Cierach will compete in cycling; Siuzana Valad\u017ako and Ja\u016dhien Cichanca\u016d, in weightlifting; Ivan Litvinovi\u010d and Vijaleta Bardzilo\u016dskaja, in trampoline; Jahor Akuli\u010d, U\u0142adzis\u0142a\u016d Kaz\u0142o\u016d, Abubakar Chas\u0142achana\u016d, D\u017amitryj Zarubski, Vijaleta Rebikava and Kry\u015bcina Sazykina, in freestyle wrestling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mahamiedchabib Kadzimahamieda\u016d, Alaksandar Hu\u0161tyn, Pavie\u0142 Hlin\u010duk, Veranika Ivanova and Vanesa Ka\u0142adzinskaja were most likely banned from the Olympics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hu\u0161tyn may have military links as he participated in the 2019 World Military Games; Hlin\u010duk and Ivanova are listed as members of the defense ministry’s sports committee, while Kadzimahamieda\u016d and Ka\u0142adzinskaja are members of the interior ministry\u2019s sports association, by.tribuna.com<\/em> reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After Russia invaded Ukraine from Belarus in February 2022, the IOC urged sports federations to ban Russian and Belarusian athletes from competitions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It later recommended that some should be allowed as neutral athletes under certain conditions, such as not supporting the war. In December 2023, the IOC allowed neutrals to compete in the 2024 Olympics to be held from July 26 to August 11.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Belarusian government has been accused of discriminating against hundreds of athletes who spoke out against violence and rigged election in 2020. Many athletes fled Belarus, fearing political reprisals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
