June 18, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Le\u016d Lvo\u016dski, academic director of the BEROC think tank, has said that 80 percent of Belarusian emigrants “intend to return to the country, provided there is a change of power there.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These are the preliminary results of a survey of Belarusians and Ukrainians who have fled to Lithuania and Poland in recent years, he said yesterday in Berlin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, he noted that most of those surveyed “are quite pessimistic.” Asked directly whether they planned to return home, only 20 percent of respondents from both countries said they were ready to do so.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the preliminary data, 40 percent of emigrants are dissatisfied with their jobs in the first year abroad, but after three years the figure drops to just 15 percent. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The higher the salary in the country of origin, the better people adapt to emigration,” the expert said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The research, supported by the German project VisiBYlity, will be completed this week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
