{"id":91413,"date":"2024-06-18T23:55:07","date_gmt":"2024-06-18T20:55:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pozirk.online\/en\/news\/91413\/"},"modified":"2026-02-24T20:40:57","modified_gmt":"2026-02-24T20:40:57","slug":"un-expert-proposes-to-abolish-three-belarusian-criminal-code-articles","status":"publish","type":"articles","link":"https:\/\/pozirk.online\/en\/news\/91413\/","title":{"rendered":"UN expert calls on Belarus to abolish three  Criminal Code articles"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>June 18, <em>Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> The United Nations&#8217; special rapporteur on the human rights in Belarus, Ana\u00efs Marin, has urged the Belarusian government to abolish three articles of the Criminal Code that carry punishment for disobedience to prison administration and insults against the head of state and officials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In her draft report, to be discussed at the ongoing session of the UN Human Rights Council, Marin called for adequate legal safeguards and effective remedies against arbitrary detention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She also called on the authorities to conduct prompt and transparent investigations into all cases of deaths in custody and to put an immediate end to ill-treatment in prisons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The UN expert suggested changing the laws on the use of force by state officers to prohibit indiscriminate attacks and to strip perpetrators of premeditated killings and their superiors of immunity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She said it was necessary to end the interference in the private lives of former prisoners disguised as &#8220;preventive&#8221; measures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition, Marin called for the repeal of a 2023 law that allows for the trial of the deceased.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Other recommendations included bringing the legal framework and law-enforcement practices into line with international law to prevent excessive surveillance; scrapping a draft law on administrative liability for promoting &#8220;non-traditional values&#8221;; and suspending the pro-government Federation of Trade Unions of Belarus as a member of the International Labor Conference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"insert-block\">\n\n    <div class=\"insert-block__img\">\n        <img decoding=\"async\" width=\"332\" height=\"236\" src=\"https:\/\/pozirk.online\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/anais_maren_OON-332x236.jpg\" class=\"attachment-medium size-medium\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pozirk.online\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/anais_maren_OON-332x236.jpg 332w, https:\/\/pozirk.online\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/anais_maren_OON-689x490.jpg 689w, https:\/\/pozirk.online\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/anais_maren_OON.jpg 745w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 332px) 100vw, 332px\" \/>                        <label class=\"insert-block__tag--mobile\"> Politics<\/label>\n\n                            <label class=\"insert-block__tag--mobile\"> Society<\/label>\n\n                <\/div>\n    <div class=\"insert-block__text\">\n                    <label class=\"insert-block__tag\">Politics, Society<\/label>\n                <h3 class=\"insert-block__title\">UN special rapporteur: Belarus human rights situation deteriorates<\/h3>\n        <div class=\"insert-block__descr\">June 5, Pozirk.
