June 19, Pozirk<\/em>. <\/strong>Over the past day, rights groups have reported more instances of politically-motivated persecution linked to participation in 2020 postelection protests.  <\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

On May 28, a judge in Minsk sentenced Aleh Ladzienka, a guitarist and recording studio manager, to two and a half years of restricted freedom in home confinement over protests, the Viasna Human Rights Center said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

About two weeks later, five people were convicted in Mahilo\u016d in connection with 2020 postelection protests, Viasna noted. Andrej Cimonin was given two years in prison; Valeryj I\u016d\u010dyn and Dzianis Kota\u016d, two and a half years of restricted freedom in an open-type correctional facility; \u015aviat\u0142ana Kotava and Michai\u0142 Pi\u0161\u010da\u0142a, two years in home confinement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Police arrested an official for sharing personal data of her colleagues with an opposition online project, Viasna said. Authorities also accused the woman of signing up for the opposition Pieramoha Plan and participating in 2020 protest rallies together with her son, who was a minor at that time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Arrests and trials<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Police arrested a Viciebsk woman for sharing opposition content on TikTok, while an employee of a thermal power station in Babrujsk, Mahilo\u016d region, was arrested for insulting officials on Telegram, pro-government sources said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ihar Iljukievi\u010d, a school PE teacher, is under arrest in Baranavi\u010dy, Brest region, for allegedly “inciting hatred and participating in a terrorist plot,” another pro-government source said. In a police video, he admitted to posting critical comments about law enforcers and Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ihar \u0141o\u017ea\u010dnik was tried in Navahrudak, Hrodna region, for sharing opposition content, the Pravo Imeyut <\/em>Telegram channel said. The verdict remains unknown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Other cases<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jailed Alaksandar La\u016dren\u0107je\u016d from Hrodna was found guilty of disobeying prison authorities, Haradzienskaja Pravaabarona<\/em> said. The judge added one year to his prison term of three years and four months, given on charges of insulting \u0141uka\u0161enka and officials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Former journalist Andrej To\u0142\u010dyn will serve his two-and-a-half-year prison term at Penal Colony No 15 in Mahilo\u016d, \u0160todzie\u0144<\/em> reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prison authorities at Penal Colony No 2 in Babrujsk stopped accepting parcels containing books, MAYDAY.TEAM reported. Other correctional facilities may follow with a similar step.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As of June 19, human rights defenders identified at least 1,396 political prisoners but the real number is considerably higher because many cases go undocumented. Opposition sources estimate the number of political prisoners at around 5,000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
