June 19, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> Hienad\u017a Kor\u0161una\u016d, a senior researcher with the Center for New Ideas (CNI), has said 538 Belarusians cast their votes in Belarus in the May election for the opposition Coordination Council.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That was just 8 percent of the total number of voters, whereas 92 percent voted from other countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking about voter preferences, Kor\u0161una\u016d noted that Team \u0141atu\u0161ka and the Movement for Freedom, as well as Our Cause, enjoyed more support in Belarus, while the European Choice and Youth Offensive were more popular among foreign-based voters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The CNI poll found that people mainly declined to vote because of safety concerns (35 percent of respondents), unwillingness to share their passport details (14 percent) and other reasons (12 percent).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some saw the election for the Coordination Council (12 percent) or any other elections (10 percent) as pointless.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another 10 percent “could not vote for technical reasons.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

CNI polled 978 people online from June 9 to 17.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Over 300 were based in Belarus and over 600 were abroad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some 6,700 people voted in the election for the third Coordination Council held on June 25\u201327.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
