June 20, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> Belarusian high jumper Maryja \u017dodzik has been included in the Polish national team for this summer’s Paris Olympic Games, Polish broadcaster TVP<\/em> reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It said \u017dodzik received a proper World Athletics permission and can compete under the Polish flag from June 20, when the required three years since her last appearance for the Belarusian team expires.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u017dodzik was granted Polish citizenship on March 20. On February 18, the high jumper made an out-of-competition appearance at the Polish championships to set a personal record of 1 m 97 cm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u017dodzik, born in Baranavi\u010dy, Brest region, has lived in Bia\u0142ystok since 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2020, she signed an open letter against election fraud and police brutality in Belarus. She also condemned Russia\u2019s war against Ukraine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Most athletes who criticized authoritarian ruler Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka in 2020 and were barred from competitions in Belarus and have ended their careers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sprinter Kry\u015bcina Cimano\u016dskaja has taken the Polish sport nationality and will go to the Olympics with \u017dodzik. Belarusian dressage rider Volha Safronava also has a chance to participate for Poland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
