June 20, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> \u015aviat\u0142ana Cichano\u016dskaja’s chief aide Franak Via\u010dorka will appeal his sentence and seek punishment for “this circus troupe.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Minsk City Court sentenced him to 20 years in prison at an in absentia<\/em> trial today. He was found guilty of conspiracy to overthrow the government, high treason and other crimes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“\u0141uka\u0161enka’s ‘court’ highly appreciated my work. Predictably, it gave me the maximum sentence. I will certainly appeal this decision and try to get it overturned. I believe that all the accomplices \u2013 the judge, the prosecutor and the others \u2013 will be brought to justice in due time,” Via\u010dorka told Pozirk<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the politician, his right to a fair trial was violated. “I didn’t know and still don’t know the essence of the charges. The trial took place in the absence of my chosen attorney and myself. The state-appointed attorney has not contacted me and has not asked about my position on the charges. I was therefore deprived of my right to counsel,” he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Via\u010dorka said the attorney appointed by the judge rejected his request to participate in the trial online.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He said he phoned Dar’ja \u0160e\u016d\u010dyk, the appointed attorney, to warn her that she had no right to work against her client. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“She invited me to come and sort out things on the spot. She ignored all of her obligations as defense attorney,” he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
