June 21, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> Ukraine is expanding defensive fortifications on its border with Belarus, but the move should not be regarded as provocative, Andriy Demchenko, a spokesman for Ukrainian border guards, told New Voice<\/em> yesterday, commenting on Minsk’s concerns about the military build-up at the border.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was Minsk that supported Moscow’s aggression and “committed the major provocation on February 24, 2022, allowing Russian troops to enter Ukraine from its territory,” he noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“As long as Belarus plays along with the Kremlin’s criminal actions, this direction [Belarus border in Ukraine’s north] will remain threatening for us and we will do everything in our power to strengthen our defenses,” Demchenko added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The remark is an apparent attempt to assuage the Belarusian State Border Committee’s concerns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The committee said yesterday special operations forces, intelligence, heavy weapons, combat vehicles, HIMARS multiple rocket launchers, M777 howitzers and German-made Gepard anti-aircraft guns were spotted near the border with Ukraine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarusian border guards, troops and \u201cspecial maneuver groups\u201d equipped with state-of-the-art weapons are on high alert, ready to prevent \u201cprovocations,\u201d it stressed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
