June 22, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Belarus has recorded a surplus in trade in goods with CIS countries and a deficit with other countries in January-April.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It amounted to $27.6 billion, an increase of 4 percent from the same period of 2023, the National Statistical Committee (Bie\u0142stat) reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Exports amounted to $13.2 billion (up 3.4 percent); imports, to $14.4 billion (up 4.5 percent). The deficit of trade in goods narrowed to $1.3 billion from $1.7 billion in January\u2013April 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trade between Belarus and CIS countries amounted to $17.3 billion (up 6.7 percent): exports, 8.9 billion.(up 0.5 percent); imports, $8.4 billion (up 14.1 percent). The surplus narrowed to 446.7 million from 1.4 billion year on year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trade with other countries amounted to $10.3 billion (down 0.3 percent): exports, $4.3 billion (up 9.8 percent); imports, $6 billion (down 6.5 percent). The trade deficit narrowed by 31.7 percent to $1.7 billion. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2023, goods trade rose by 8.6 percent to $83.4 billion with exports increasing by 4.7 percent to $40.2 billion and imports, by 12.4 percent to $43.3 billion. The trade deficit amounted to $3.9 billion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bie\u0142stat has not disclosed the breakdown by country or goods category.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On April 9, Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka said that sales in foreign markets, mainly in Russia and the CIS, “have been growing steadily for three consecutive years.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“However, the situation in non-CIS countries is much worse. Sales are down 20 percent from the pre-sanction year of 2021. Export plans on friendly far-arc countries have not been fulfilled. There is a huge demand for industrial products in Africa, Latin America and Asia. Here we need to work thoroughly and occupy our niches, especially on the African continent,” he stressed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
