June 25, Pozirk<\/em>. <\/strong>Vilnius would be happy to host the Council of Europe’s information point for Belarus, Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His speech at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) was livestreamed<\/a> on YouTube today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Landsbergis said the move was in line with Lithuania’s policy of supporting civil society, independent media and human rights activists from Belarus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He also called for real measures against Russia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The Kremlin’s regime is not affected by our condemnations and threats. Real action is the only thing that counts, and thus we must act,” Landsbergis said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He continued by saying that “the political and military leadership of Russia and its accomplice Belarus” must bear responsibility for the aggression against Ukraine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“A special international tribunal must be established and equipped to effectively reach and punish those who planned and initiated the aggression,” he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He called for further steps to protect Ukrainian children who face deportation, illegal adoption and the loss of their national identity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last week, Belarusian opposition leader \u015aviat\u0142ana Cichano\u016dskaja announced work on the opening of the Council of Europe’s information point in Vilnius, which would foster ties between the democratic movement and the international organization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In March 2023, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Vladimir Putin and his children’s rights commissioner Maria Lvova-Belova for the alleged war crime of unlawful deportation of children. Belarusian opposition activists are seeking a similar warrant for Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
