June 26, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> Pavie\u0142 \u0141atu\u0161ka, a Warsaw-based Belarusian opposition politician, met with David O\u2019Sullivan, the European Union’s sanctions envoy, hours before the EU approved a new sanctions package against Minsk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Personal sanctions against Belarusian military and security officers, judges and officials “could be introduced in packages several times a year,” \u0141atu\u0161ka said on Telegram.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To improve its sanctions policy, the EU should isolate key Belarusian banks and Belarus-based subsidiaries of Russian financial institutions “by closing their correspondent accounts with European banks,” he suggested.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to him, the EU should also limit the transit of sanctioned goods through Belarus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u0141atu\u0161ka called for sanctions against the Union State of Belarus and Russia, which “finances, organizes and facilitates the illegal transfer of Ukrainian children from the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine” to Belarus, and undermines the independence of Belarus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trade sanctions against Minsk and Moscow should be harmonized and restrictions should be imposed on foreign assets linked to Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u0141atu\u0161ka urged the EU to maintain its sanctions policy against Belarusian propaganda media, which “justify the aggression against Ukraine and mass reprisals.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Earlier today, the Belgian Presidency of the EU Council reported that EU ambassadors agreed on a new sanctions package against Belarus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis package will strengthen our measures in response to Russia\u2019s invasion of Ukraine, including combating circumvention of sanctions,\u201d it said on X.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Previously, the EU sanctioned the Belarusian National Youth Union (BRSM), its leader Alaksandar \u0141ukjana\u016d, the Bie\u0142OMO (BelOMO) group and its CEO Alaksandar Maroz, as well as Dmitry Mezentsev, state secretary of the Union State of Russia and Belarus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
