June 27, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> A permanent representation of the Coordination Council at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) will be “a strong step” in recognizing the council’s role, Pavie\u0142 \u0141atu\u0161ka has told PACE Secretary General Despina Chatzivassiliou-Tsovilis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Commenting on the meeting in his Telegram channel, the Belarusian opposition politician said he informed the PACE secretary general about the council\u2019s election and reprisals that candidates faced in Belarus. \u0141atu\u0161ka is known as the leader of one of the largest coalitions in the newly elected council.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

PACE is reportedly implementing procedures to allow the council’s delegation to participate in activities of its standing committees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Two days ago, Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis told PACE that Vilnius would be happy to host the Council of Europe\u2019s (CoE) information point for Belarus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

PACE is formed of MPs representing the 46 CoE member states, promoting human rights, democracy and the rule of law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Before Russia invaded Ukraine in 2022, Belarus was the only European country without CoE membership.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
