June 27, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> By naming the previous ambassador to Russia as head of his administration, Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka “is sending a clear message to the Kremlin: I am appointing the man you know very well, the man who has done everything for maximum integration,” said Pavie\u0142 \u0141atu\u0161ka, a former diplomat turned opposition politician.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ambassador D\u017amitryj Krutoj “was responsible for the development, approval and adoption of the 28 Union programs that facilitated the incorporation of Belarus’ military-industrial complex into Russia’s as much as possible. He arranged the production of what Russia needed to continue its aggression against Ukraine,” \u0141atu\u0161ka told Pozirk.<\/em> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Krutoj supported the aggression, signed a number of treaties with Russian-occupied regions and initiated the opening of Belarus’ Consulate General in Rostov-on-Don. Minsk plans to extend its jurisdiction to the occupied regions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Commenting on the appointment of Maksim Ry\u017eanko\u016d, a former deputy head of \u0141uka\u0161enka’s administration, as foreign minister, he said he could try to improve ties with the West just a little bit ahead of \u0141uka\u0161enka’s “reappointment” as president in 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He noted Ry\u017eanko\u016d’s considerable diplomatic experience and competition with the late Foreign Minister U\u0142adzimir Makiej. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ry\u017eanko\u016d “criticized him [Makiej], tried to impose his own approaches on the foreign ministry and wanted to be a minister.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, no foreign minister will succeed in improving ties with the West “until \u0141uka\u0161enka stops mass reprisals and torture in prisons, releases political prisoners, stops assisting Russia in its aggression against Ukraine, and stops hybrid attacks at the European Union border.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to \u0141atu\u0161ka, Ry\u017eanko\u016d’s appointment is a message to the Kremlin: “If anything happens, I will try to develop relations with the West.” This old tactic is aimed at “receiving more resources and money for the regime” in dire straits, he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He pointed out that Ry\u017eanko\u016d was sanctioned by the European Union, the United Kingdom, Switzerland and Canada.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

By appointing Natalla Piatkievi\u010d as first deputy head of his administration, \u0141uka\u0161enka picked “an old-schooler, a tested person who supported his hassle-free reappointment as president in previous electoral periods,” he noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“She is anti-Belarusian, an opponent of the prevalence of the Belarusian language in society and support for the Belarusian culture. As culture minister, I personally encountered her aggressive attitude toward Belarusian culture many times,” \u0141atu\u0161ka said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He described Siarhiej Alejnik, dismissed today as the shortest-serving foreign minister in Belarus’ modern history, as a “fiasco minister.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Permanent signals from Moscow and dissatisfaction with his work, lethargy and inability to solve the Kremlin’s tasks” contributed to his dismissal, the politician said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“He did not have a good relationship with [Russian Foreign Minister] Sergey Lavrov, according to information we were receiving. Another reason was his heart problems,” he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On June 27, \u0141uka\u0161enka also named the new ministers of industry and agriculture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
