{"id":93275,"date":"2024-06-29T12:17:19","date_gmt":"2024-06-29T09:17:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pozirk.online\/en\/news\/93275\/"},"modified":"2026-03-10T12:05:06","modified_gmt":"2026-03-10T12:05:06","slug":"un-expert-minsk-keeps-ignoring-un-recommendations","status":"publish","type":"articles","link":"https:\/\/pozirk.online\/en\/news\/93275\/","title":{"rendered":"UN expert: Belarus keeps ignoring UN recommendations"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>June 29, <em>Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> For the past six years, Minsk has ignored all recommendations designed to help Belarus meet its international human rights obligations, despite the country being a party to key human rights conventions, said Ana\u00efs Marin, the United Nations special rapporteur on human rights in Belarus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Belarusian government does not recognize the UN special rapporteur&#8217;s mandate and refuses to cooperate, she told Belarusians in Warsaw on Friday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This may be related to issues within the UN, as some of its members, China among them, consider human rights to be a part of internal policy, considering external interference unacceptable, the expert noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Marin announced that she is stepping down after serving as special rapporteur since 2018. A new appointment is expected by November. The mandate has been renewed annually since its establishment in 2012.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Marin&#8217;s latest report on the human rights situation in Belarus is scheduled to be reviewed at the 56th session of the UNHRC in Geneva on July 2.
