July 3, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> The Brest Regional Court yesterday started considering a criminal case against political prisoner Iryna Bandarenka, accused of supporting extremism, Viasna Brest reported. She was sending small sums of money to prisoners and bringing aid packages to a pre-trial detention center.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pro-government media and Mediazona<\/em> reported the arrest of a businessman for participating in post-election protests. He allegedly wrote opposition slogans on a wall and shared information about his former colleagues in a state body with the Black Book of Belarus project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A fan of FC \u0160achtar Salihorsk was arrested for the tattoo ACAB (all cops are bastards).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Judges in the Hrodna region heard several cases related to the distribution of opposition content, Pravo Imeyut reported. Marta Rodzik was tried in the Va\u016dkavysk District Court. Inesa Mi\u0142a\u0161 and Iryna Stefanovi\u010d, in the Astraviec District Court. The verdicts are unknown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A district court in Hrodna is trying Hleb \u010carviako\u016d, Pavie\u0142 Kiebi\u010d and Eduard Ma\u0142myha, the Viasna Human Rights Center reported. They are accused of violent disorder.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On June 27, the Pinsk District Court in the Brest region labeled the Za Svoy Gorod<\/em> page on the LiveJournal social network as “extremist content.” The page belongs to the Brest branch of the opposition Belarusian Social Democratic Party. It was last updated in late 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Political prisoner Ihar Alinievi\u010d, sentenced to 20 years in a medium-secuirty penal colony, is in a Kaladzi\u010dy hospital, Strana Dlya Zhizni reported. Details are unknown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Political prisoner Siarhiej Hu\u0144 was released, according to Viasna Homiel. He was accused of violent disorder. The Mahilo\u016d Regional Court sentenced him to prison in March 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As of July 3, human rights defenders identified at least 1,409 political prisoners but the real number is considerably higher because many cases go undocumented. Opposition sources estimate the number of political prisoners at around 5,000.
