July 8, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> The Brest Regional Court has sentenced Polish national Tomasz Bereza to 14 years in a medium-security penal colony, the Viasna Human Rights Center reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Judge Siarhiej Bieraziuk found him guilty of spying at a closed-door trial. The verdict was read out in June 2023, but the human rights group has just found out about it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The man is serving his sentence at Ivacevi\u010dy’s Penal Colony No. 22 in the Brest region, Viasna reported. The group has listed him among political prisoners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The center has files on two other Poles held in prison in Belarus and designated as political prisoners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jerzy \u017bywolewski was sentenced to four years in prison for spying and Robert T\u0105pa\u0142a, to three years in prison for insulting an official and the head of state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Roman Ga\u0142uza, a Belarusian-born man with Polish citizenship, is on trial to answer charges of high treason, Viasna added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He reportedly was arrested while visiting Belarus in July 2022. The arrest might be linked to his assistance to Belarusian political refugees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
