July 11, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> New instances of politically-motivated persecution documented in Belarus on July 10 include updates to the Committee for State Security\u2019s (KGB) terrorist register.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The KGB posted the “list of persons involved in terrorist activities” on its Telegram channel four months after an attack by the opposition cyberactivists that paralyzed the KGB website, Pozirk <\/em>reported. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The list now has 1,160 entries with 46 new additions, among them exiled opposition politician Ivan Kra\u016dco\u016d and bloggers Volha and Andrej Pavuk, convicted in absentia in Belarus, as well as political commentator D\u017amitryj Ba\u0142kuniec.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Arrests<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pro-government Telegram channels posted two confession videos yesterday, including of a Hrodna businessman arrested for allegedly supporting opposition activities. The other arrest is linked to a Pahonia coat of arms tattoo. In the video, the man said he had been tried for a minor offense linked to “unauthorized picketing” and promised to remove the tattoo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trials and criminal proceedings<\/p>\n\n\n\n

D\u017amitryj \u0160yman was tried in Lida, Hrodna region, for sharing opposition content, the Pravo Imeyut <\/em>Telegram channel said. The verdict remains unknown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Upcoming criminal proceedings this month will feature the trials of D\u017amitryj Nary\u0161kin, accused of high treason and participating in an armed conflict abroad; Alesia Sierhijenka and Natalla Charytonava-Kry\u017eevi\u010d who face extremism-related charges; and D\u017amitryj Asijuk, accused of terrorism, illegal actions with firearms and robbery, the Viasna Human Rights Center reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Other cases<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Freelance journalist Andrej To\u0142cyn, sentenced to two and a half years in prison, was transferred from Homiel to Penal Colony No 15 in Mahilo\u016d, the Homiel branch of Viasna said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As of July 11, <\/a>human rights defenders identified at least 1,405 political prisoners but the real number is considerably higher because many cases go undocumented. Opposition sources estimate the number of political prisoners at around 5,000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
