{"id":94985,"date":"2024-07-11T16:54:21","date_gmt":"2024-07-11T13:54:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pozirk.online\/en\/news\/94985\/"},"modified":"2026-03-09T20:10:49","modified_gmt":"2026-03-09T20:10:49","slug":"lawmaker-suggests-founding-brics-mission-to-assess-elections-without-western-guidance","status":"publish","type":"articles","link":"https:\/\/pozirk.online\/en\/news\/94985\/","title":{"rendered":"Lawmaker suggests founding BRICS mission to assess elections without Western guidance"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>July 11, <em>Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> Natalla Ka\u010danava, chairwoman of the upper house of the Belarusian National Assembly, has urged BRICS to set up a mission to monitor elections in various countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The mission would assess elections on the basis of accepted standards, &#8220;without tailoring its reports to the political position of Western elites,&#8221; she told the 10th BRICS Parliamentary Forum in St Petersburg, TASS reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In her opinion, this could help strengthen the role and authority of BRICS, an intergovernmental organization that includes Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa and several other countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Perhaps it&#8217;s time to think about establishing a special international body to protect national electoral processes,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since 1996, independent Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe observers have not recognized a single election campaign in Belarus as meeting international democratic standards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Belarus applied for BRICS membership last year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Also read: <a href=\"https:\/\/pozirk.online\/en\/news\/69864\/\">European diplomats slam Belarus\u2019 sham elections<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>July 11, Pozirk.
