July 11, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> In the first six months of this year, 1,400 Belarusian nationals were granted international protection in Poland, according to the country’s Office for Foreigners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarusians were the most numerous ethnic group of those granted international protection in January-June, followed by Ukrainians (1,300) and Russians (100).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the first quarter, Poland issued a total of 4,700 decisions, of which 3,000 were positive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Seven hundred and sixty foreigners were denied protection. They included 320 Russians, 50 Belarusians (3.5 percent of all requests considered) and 45 Indian nationals. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the six-month period, 7,700 foreigners applied for international protection, including 2,000 Belarusians, 2,700 Ukrainians and 600 Russians. The number of requests increased by 79 percent from the same period of 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Earlier, the Belarusian Solidarity Center quoted the Office for Foreigners as saying that 118,562 Belarusian nationals lived in Poland on December 31 with documents authorizing their stay in one way or another. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

A total of 69,399 people had temporary residence permits, 39,553 had permanent residence permits, 6,555 had additional protection, 1,160 were long-term EU residents, 578 were refugees and 436 had temporary protection. Other reasons to be in Poland were cited by 881 Belarusians.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
