July 13, Pozirk<\/em>. <\/strong>Bundestag member Anik\u00f3 Glogowski-Merten from the Free Democratic Party of the government coalition has stressed the urgent need for a “comprehensive strategy” of the European Union on Belarus, including a roadmap for democratic reforms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The MP, who is also a member of the For A Democratic Belarus group in the Bundestag, welcomed the intentions of German and Polish governments to support democracy in Belarus, discussed on July 2 in Warsaw.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Their action plan includes a chapter on Belarus, where both EU countries pledged to \u201cenhance sanction measures\u201d against Minsk, reflecting the EU\u2019s \u201cgradual and targeted approach, both in terms of individual and sectoral sanctions.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Glogowski-Merten made her statement in response to criticism of the action plan by Norbert Kleinw\u00e4chter, MP from the populist Alternative for Germany party, who protested against linking the EU strategy on Belarus with democratic reforms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Consultations between Berlin and Warsaw resumed this year after a six-year break, following a government change in Poland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
