July 14, Pozirk.<\/em> <\/strong>Relations with Belarus “have never threatened the security of France,” says Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka’s congratulatory message to the “multinational people” of France on Bastille Day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

France does not recognize \u0141uka\u0161enka as a legitimate president of Belarus and joined the European Union’s sanctions against his government. In response, authorities in Minsk targeted France with counter-sanctions, listing it among the so-called “unfriendly countries.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Belarusian ruler described France as a country with “history of struggle against injustice and victory over absolutism,” his press office quoted the message.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“These values are now more important than ever,\u201d he said. \u201cHighly revered in some Western capitals, they are banned when countries in the East or the South defend their national interests.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Earlier, Belarusians and the French “could get to know each other better, travel and explore new opportunities” without any “pressure and ultimatums,” \u0141uka\u0161enka noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Sincere feelings of friendship and trust” along with the experience of “fruitful cooperation between the peoples of the two countries” should lead to a dialogue between Belarus and France, the message stressed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Minsk keeps its doors open to constructive initiatives from Paris and is ready to make the corresponding steps towards them,” he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
