{"id":95580,"date":"2024-07-15T12:34:15","date_gmt":"2024-07-15T09:34:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pozirk.online\/en\/news\/95580\/"},"modified":"2026-03-10T12:05:06","modified_gmt":"2026-03-10T12:05:06","slug":"illegal-belarus-eu-border-crossings-exceed-1000-since-the-start-of-july","status":"publish","type":"articles","link":"https:\/\/pozirk.online\/en\/news\/95580\/","title":{"rendered":"Illegal Belarus-EU border crossings exceed 1,000 since the start of July"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>July 15, <em>Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> The European Union (EU) has not allowed at least 70 migrants to enter illegally from Belarus over the past day, after thwarting 48 and 85 attempts on Saturday and Friday, respectively, <em>Pozirk<\/em>&#8216;s analysis of border guards&#8217; data showed.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Poland reported more than 138 illegal border crossings over the past three days; Latvia, 65; Lithuania, none.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since the start of 2024, the EU has thwarted at least 24,089 attempts to violate its border from Belarus, with 1,040 attempts recorded this month. Poland reported 20,775 illegal border crossings; Latvia and Lithuania, 3,037 and 277, respectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The migration crisis at the Belarus-EU border started in spring 2021 after Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka, angered by EU sanctions, had indicated that Minsk would not prevent migrants from Africa and Asia from using Belarus as a route to the EU.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In June 2021, the Belarusian government announced the suspension of a readmission agreement with the EU in response to sanctions that followed the forced landing of a Ryanair flight in Minsk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tensions on the border escalated this spring with the spike in illegal border crossings and attacks on Polish border guards by people trying to cross the border illegally.
