July 15, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> Belarusian judges handed down at least 146 politically-motivated criminal sentences in June, the Viasna Human Rights Center reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ninety-eight men and 48 women were convicted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the rights group, 90 cases involved charges of violent disorder, typically used against the 2020 protesters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Viasna noted that more of trials, including show trials involving several defenders, were held on these charges in Belarus’ regions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last month, collective show trials took place in Baranavi\u010dy, Mahilo\u016d’s Leninski District Court and Hrodna’s Kastry\u010dnicki District Court.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Still, Minsk continues to lead the way in politically motivated criminal trials with 77 people convicted in June, followed by the Mahilo\u016d region (14), the Hrodna, Homiel and Minsk regions (13 each), the Brest region (nine) and the Viciebsk region (seven).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Viasna pointed out an increase in new sentences against already repressed citizens, 10 cases, as well as in persecution of their families or relatives, five cases against 11 people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At least five people were sentenced in June for malicious disobedience to prison administration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Viasna, at least 145 people, 31 women and 114 men, were sentenced on politically-motivated charges in May.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
