July 15, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> \u0179micier Da\u0161kievi\u010d, the imprisoned former leader of the Ma\u0142ady Front opposition youth organization, is to go on trial at Minsk’s Pier\u0161amajski District Court on July 17 to answer a charge of violent disorder, the Viasna Human Rights Center reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Judge Anastasija Kulik will preside over the proceedings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Da\u0161kievi\u010d’s wife Nasta announced the initiation of the case on May 3, two months before his release. In January, she had said that she feared for the life and health of her husband.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In July last year, Da\u0161kievi\u010d was to be released after spending a year and a half behind bars for taking part in a protest August 2020. Instead, authorities sentenced him to an additional year in prison for disobedience. That was Da\u0161kievi\u010d’s fourth prison sentence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Two months later, the Minsk Regional Court rejected his appeal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In July 2022, his wife was convicted of violent disorder and sentenced to restricted freedom, a type of home confinement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
