July 17, Pozirk<\/em>. <\/strong>Belarus’ powder metallurgy industry is at disadvantage because of higher industrial electricity rates than in Russia, said Vadzim Savi\u010d, the first deputy director of the Powder Metallurgy Institute (PMI), told reporters in Minsk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“With all our efforts, our parts cannot be cheaper than Russian-made ones, so we must prioritize quality,” he noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Savi\u010d noted that Russia\u2019s Pnevmostroymashina had refused to buy Belarusian-made gerotor gear pair sets despite preliminary agreements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Russian manufacturer ordered the sets from a Taiwanese company, citing the high price of Belarusian products, he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He added that only “two rounds of sanctions” helped the PMI win a contract for supplying friction disks to the Minsk Tractor Works (MTZ).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

MTZ bought Austrian-made disks from a Czech company before.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the last eight years, the PMI has supplied parts to the Mytishchi Machine-Building Plant, Savi\u010d said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to him, the Russian company manufactures vehicles for Buk and Tor missile systems and Tunguska self-propelled anti-aircraft guns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The plant is part of the Russia’s Kalashnikov group, which is under US sanctions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
