July 17, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Estonia has banned vehicles with Belarusian license plates from entering the European Union (EU) through its border crossing points, according to the foreign ministry in Tallinn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It linked the move<\/a> to EU sanctions on the Belarusian regime, which supported Russia’s aggression and helped Moscow to circumvent Western restrictions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ban does not apply to humanitarian and diplomatic vehicles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Margus Tsahkna, the Estonian foreign minister, praised the measure, which matched the similar bans in Latvia and Lithuania.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“When applied jointly, restrictions are more effective and this way we can raise the cost the Belarusian regime bears for contributing to aggression, and prevent the circumvention of sanctions imposed on Russia,” he said, pledging Tallin’s continued support for Belarusians forced in exile.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Earlier the same day, the Lithuanian Customs Department announced that Lithuania will stop allowing vehicles with Belarusian license plates to enter its territory on July 18.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ban will apply to all Belarus-registered passenger cars regardless of the nationality of their owner or driver, it said, citing the European Union Council regulation 2024\/1865 of June 29, 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Latvia cited the same regulation a few days ago, banning the entry of vehicles with Belarusian license plates starting July 16.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
