{"id":96331,"date":"2024-07-18T18:57:11","date_gmt":"2024-07-18T15:57:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pozirk.online\/en\/news\/96331\/"},"modified":"2026-03-09T20:10:49","modified_gmt":"2026-03-09T20:10:49","slug":"overwhelming-majority-of-belarusians-against-joining-russia-poll","status":"publish","type":"articles","link":"https:\/\/pozirk.online\/en\/news\/96331\/","title":{"rendered":"Overwhelming majority of Belarusians against joining Russia &#8211; poll"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>July 18, <em>Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> Andrej Vardamacki, head of the Belarusian Analytical Workroom, has noted a sharp decrease support for a full merger of Belarus and Russia among Belarusians.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Only 2.6 percent of Belarusians supported incorporation of their country into Russia in a November 2023 poll compared with 4 percent in 2009, he told a meeting on mental resilience in Warsaw.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said that 7.3 percent supported possible visa requirements, customs and border controls with Russia \u2013 the same relations that Belarus has with the other neighbors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Just over 14 percent approved of the Union State of Belarus and Russia, while 73.1 percent favored a border without customs and border controls.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Support for this type of &#8220;independent and friendly coexistence&#8221; rose by 6.1 points since 2009.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Vardamacki also presented a research on Belarusians\u2019 attitude to a possible deployment of troops to the war-torn Ukraine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The four-stage survey was conducted in March, May and September 2022 and June 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The opposition to a hypothetical deployment was 85 percent, 85.1 percent, 80.9 percent and 80.2 percent, respectively. Support was recorded at 11.1 percent, 8.2 percent, 9.5 percent and 10.1 percent. However, 3.5 percent, 6.3 percent, 9.5 percent and 9.7 percent did not have an answer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition, the sociologist cited a 2022 research on causes of the 2020 unrest in Belarus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Respondents were asked to grade the impact of those events on the scale of 0 to 5.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Post-election police violence scored 4.34 points; police behavior, 3.97 points; and election fraud, 3.95 points, according to Vardamacki.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Those answers were followed by economic issues with 3.23 points, the government&#8217;s handling of the coronavirus pandemic with 3.02 points and the West&#8217;s supposedly unfriendly policies with 2.53 points.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>July 18, Pozirk.
