July 22, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> Anatol Charyton\u010dyk, senior researcher at the BEROC think tank, has said that Belarus is likely to face stagnation in the second half of 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If this scenario unfolds, economic growth will be close to 4 percent at the end of the year, he told journalists at an online briefing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Although the economy expanded by 5 percent in the first six months, growth slowed down in June, he said, citing official data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Citing preliminary calculations, he said that actual output exceeds potential GDP by more than 3.5 percent, a sign of an overheated economy. Further expansion is constrained by production limitations and increased competition in Russia, the main market.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the expert, to maintain the record output volume it has achieved, the country must invest heavily in expanding production capacity and increasing labor productivity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Economic growth has been driven by construction and agriculture, he noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In July, harvesting was ahead of last year’s schedule. Therefore, the month will be marked by vigorous growth in this sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, the impact of this year’s weather is unclear. It appears the yield is even lower than last year, Charyton\u010dyk said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Asked by Pozirk<\/em> about the outlook for the IT sector, he said that it demonstrated a moderate recovery for two consecutive quarters after a two-year decline.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Its added value is at the same level as in mid-2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If the trend persists, the sector will show some improvement by the end of the year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
