July 24, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> Vadzim Kaban\u010duk, deputy commander of the Kastu\u015b Kalino\u016dski Regiment, has denied rumors of a fissure within the Belarusian volunteer unit fighting Russia in Ukraine, commenting on the recent political initiative by some of its members.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The idea to set up the Kalino\u016dcy public movement originated in November 2023 and is not a response to any schisms, he has told journalists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis is consistent work to develop a strategy to rally Belarusian pro-democracy and national liberation forces, counter Russian aggression and liberate Belarus,\u201d Kaban\u010duk stressed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The regiment’s fighters \u201care now performing their duties as part of the Foreign Legion of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and are successfully crushing the enemy,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kalino\u016dcy (Kalino\u016dski followers) are a part of the regiment, uniting soldiers on active duty along with former volunteers from other units, the officer said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Its members share the common mission and follow the regiment\u2019s rules, which are consistent with the regulations of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kaban\u010duk confirmed that former Olympian Pavie\u0142 \u0160urmiej is acting as regiment commander.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarusian volunteers formed the Kalino\u016dski regiment in Ukraine in March 2022, initially as a battalion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Its stated mission is to liberate Belarus by defending Ukraine. Minsk has declared the unit an extremist group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
