July 24, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> Lithuanian officers have noted a slight increase in illegal migrants at the border with Belarus, but it is under control, said Rustam Lubayev, chief of the Lithuanian State Border Guard Service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The technical capabilities at the border allow authorities to detect all violations and detain trespassers, he said, according to Delfi<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That Belarusian border guards are helping groups of illegal immigrants is nothing new, the official said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We have also noticed the tendency that these illegal migrants are transported from the Lithuanian-Belarusian border to the Polish-Belarusian border or to the Latvian border,” Lubayev added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He is expecting illegal border crossings to spike before cold weather sets in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On July 20, the Lithuanian State Border Guard Service thwarted 40 attempts, an eight-month high, according to Pozirk<\/em>‘s analysis of its stats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Forty-one such attempts were foiled by Lithuania on November 9. Since then, the daily number has always been smaller.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
