July 24, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> The Museum of Occupations and Freedom Fights in Vilnius has opened an exhibition of posters, a reflection by Belarusian designer Artur Vakara\u016d on 30 years of Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka’s rule.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thirty posters are said to highlight sensitive issues, such as political prisoners, violence, complicity in Russia’s war, dictatorship and its ideology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vakara\u016d presented his take on economic decline, nuclear weapons, closed borders and forced emigration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“For foreigners, the number 30 is a shock \u2013 30 years! He is one of the record holders. Lithuanians, Poles and Czechs understand that everything is bad in Belarus, but they don’t understand what 30 years is . . . The number [of years] is gross,” Vakara\u016d told Pozirk<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The exhibition has been organized with support from the office of Belarusian opposition leader \u015aviat\u0142ana Cichano\u016dskaja, who spoke at the opening ceremony. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u017dygimantas Pavilionis, deputy speaker of the Lithuanian parliament, and Juozas Olekas, Lithuania’s former defense minister, also delivered speeches of support for Belarusians’ democratic aspirations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The exhibition would later travel to Bia\u0142ystok, Warsaw and Brussels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vakara\u016d, the founder of the Adliha design studio that had an office in downtown Minsk, has often cooperated with civil society and independent media and designed covers for books by contemporary writers. Supporters evacuated him from Belarus in June 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
