July 25, Pozirk. <\/em><\/strong>The windstorm cleanup in the Homiel region involved “272 persons from among the special contingent,” said Ivan My\u015blicki of the interior ministry’s corrections department.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Inmates from open-type corrective institutions and labor therapy camps took part in debris removal and repair work, he said at a meeting of the regional executive committee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Regional police chief Alaksandar \u0160astaj\u0142a said the authorities involve unemployed citizens registered with penal inspections to assist public services in making the road network safe for traffic, clearing branches, leaves and other debris.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On July 23, Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka instructed officials to involve citizens, including political prisoners, in eliminating the effects of bad weather.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Earlier that month, high winds widely damaged the power grid and disrupted water supply. The Homiel region suffered the most and announced a state of emergency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Seven people died as a result of the severe weather on July 13 and 14.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
