July 26, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Human rights defenders have designated seven people as political prisoners, bringing the total to 1,387, the Viasna Human Rights Center reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They granted this status to Juryj \u0141ahadziuk, Ta\u0107ciana Franckievi\u010d and Natalla \u0141abacevi\u010d, taken into custody on suspicion of facilitating extremism, as well as Ihar \u017dyva\u0142un, found guilty of an extremism-related crime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They also listed Natalla Levaja, sentenced to six years in a penal colony for donations to the Kastu\u015b Kalino\u016dski Regiment, and Alesia Dziarnako\u016dskaja and Alaksandar Syryca, taken into custody for alleged extremism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The human rights defenders called on the Belarusian authorities to immediately release all political prisoners, reconsider politically motivated sentences and end political repression against the country’s citizens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The statement was signed by the Viasna Human Rights Center, Pravavaja Inicyjatyva, Belarusian PEN, Office for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, Belarusian Helsinki Committee, Barys Zvozska\u016d Human Rights House and Lawtrend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
