July 26, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> Three journalists from the Belarusian investigative project Biuro <\/em>are on an interstate wanted list, Mediazona Belarus<\/em> reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alaksandar Jara\u0161evi\u010d, Alaksiej Karpieka and Volha Alchimienka are in the Russian interior ministry’s criminal investigation database.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Biuro<\/em> said on Telegram that it regards the criminal prosecution as revenge to its investigations and an attempt to exert pressure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The project has investigated corruption, fraud, tax evasion, money laundering, sanctions evasion and human rights violations since December 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It says its investigations have an impact, such as European politicians imposing sanctions and officials initiating inspections and opening criminal cases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In January, a district court in Homiel labeled Biuro<\/em>‘s website and social media as extremist content.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since 2020, the government has cracked down hard on independent media.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the Belarusian Association of Journalists, 38 media workers are behind bars.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
