July 26, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> Human rights defenders registered 1,756 instances of political repression in Belarus between April 1 and June 31, including searches, trials and interrogations, the Viasna Human Rights Center reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A total of 450 cases involved detention. Human rights activists know of at least 1,079 trials under the Administrative Offenses Code in that period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Judges often tried citizens for subscriptions to extremist content and social media posts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition, officers continued to arrest people at the state border after checking their phones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the first three months, activists documented 987 detentions in Belarus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Authorities arrested at least 1,437 people in the first six months of 2024. The real number must be significantly higher because activists were unable to document all incidents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Previously, reports said that judges convicted at least 146 people for political reasons in June and at least 145 in May.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The government launched the crackdown after the 2020 disputed presidential election.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
