July 30, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> With Belarus\u2019 next presidential election just a year away, the interior minister has told his officers to be ready for any developments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We must not relax,” the interior ministry\u2019s press office quoted Ivan Kubrako\u016d as saying at a meeting with region police officials in Brest, noting that preparations require a serious analysis and proper training.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ministry, which has been involved in politically-motivated reprisals for four years, has not specified what threats worry Kubrako\u016d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarus is to hold a presidential election no later than July 20, 2025, Ihar Karpienka, chairman of the central election commission, said on June 5, emphasizing the need for tight security.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The previous presidential race of 2020 was marred by allegations of fraud and police brutality, which sparked massive protests, followed by the harshest crackdown of Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka’s 30-year rule.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
