August 1, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Western governments ignored Belarusian interests in the negotiations on the prisoner swap with Russia<\/a>, said the oldest Belarusian government in exile.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Rada of the Belarusian National Republic (BNR) said in a statement that the list of those swapped today did not include any Belarusian political prisoners or captives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It emphasized that the US and European leaders ignored the suffering of the Belarusian people, who found themselves in their current position not least because the West was willing to see Belarus as Moscow’s “exclusive zone of interests.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The capture of German national Rico Krieger was an international crime and his exchange was carried out in Russia’s interest, it said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The BNR Rada had hoped that Kyiv could insist on the release of two Belarusian volunteer fighters from Russian captivity and Belarusians convicted of trying to prevent Russian troops from committing war crimes in Ukraine, according to the statement. In addition, Warsaw could seek the release of journalist Andrzej Poczobut and other ethnic Poles from Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka’s prisons, it added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The BNR Rada called on Western leaders to consider that peace and security on the European continent were impossible without “liberating Belarus from \u0141uka\u0161enka’s Russian vassal dictatorship and preventing a possible attempt at direct occupation of Belarus by Russia.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
