August 3, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> A former deputy commander of the Kastu\u015b Kalino\u016dski Regiment, Vadzim Kaban\u010duk, has been appointed to the United Transitional Cabinet (UTC) as defense representative, UTC head \u015aviat\u0142ana Cichano\u016dskaja said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Mr Kaban\u010duk distinguished himself in the Kastu\u015b Kalino\u016dski Regiment, where he defended the honor of Belarus. He has experience and authority among the military and good relations with Ukraine,” she told the New Belarus Conference 2024 in Vilnius.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The UTC’s acting foreign affairs representative, U\u0142adzimir Astapienka, became its representative for international and European cooperation. “This office will replace the foreign affairs office. Mr Astapienka will combine his new position with his post as head of mission in Brussels,” Cichano\u016dskaja continued.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Marharyta Vorychava, Cichano\u016dskaja’s adviser on youth policy, became representative for youth and student affairs. “Marharyta is a member of the Coordination Council and one of the leaders of the Belarusian youth community. Her task will be to represent and protect the interests of young people in Belarus and abroad,” the opposition leader said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“I also approved Pavie\u0142 \u0141atu\u0161ka’s proposal to appoint Arciom Bruchan as deputy representative for the transition of power,” she said. “Mr Brukhan has proven himself as an excellent worker in the National Anti-Crisis Management. He has experience in the government, is an excellent communicator and organizer.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pavie\u0142 \u0141atu\u0161ka, Alina Ko\u016d\u0161yk and Volha Harbunova, the UTC’s representatives for the transition of power, national revival, and social issues, respectively, as well as their deputies, will continue to work in the cabinet, the opposition leader said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cichano\u016dskaja expressed hope for the Coordination Council to hold early hearings with the new representatives and make its recommendations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“I also urge the Coordination Council to suggest candidates for other positions, such as representatives for the economy, law and order, and mobility and legalization. This will allow us to solve Belarusians’ problems inside and outside the country more effectively,” she added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Cichano\u016dskaja, the appointments will boost the UTC’s performance and relevance. The cabinet “must respond to the demands of Belarusian society and defend Belarusian interests,” she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The opposition leader thanked Valeryj Kavale\u016dski, the former foreign affairs representative, and Valeryj Sacha\u0161\u010dyk, the former defense representative, for their work. “Our paths have not diverged.
