August 7, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> A group of 43 children aged eight to 15 and five accompanying adults from the so-called Donetsk people’s republic have arrived in Belarus for recuperation, state media reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The visit comes amid accusations from Kyiv and the Belarusian opposition that Russia uses the program as part of a broader effort to assimilate Ukrainian children living under occupation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The children are supported by a rehabilitation and recuperation program for Donbas, run by Belarusian Paralympian Alaksiej Ta\u0142aj’s foundation, reports said. They will spend 18 days in a children’s health camp in the Viciebsk region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The transfer is overseen by the Russian-backed children’s ombudsman in Donetsk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In March 2023, the International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant for Russian President Vladimir Putin and his children\u2019s rights commissioner, Maria Lvova-Belova, over alleged deportations of children from the occupied territories of Ukraine. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Belarusian opposition is seeking a similar warrant for Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka on the same grounds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Critics say that at least 2,500 children have been transferred from the Russian-occupied territories of Ukraine to Belarus since the start of the war and subjected to pro-Russian and anti-Ukrainian indoctrination. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ta\u0142aj, Bie\u0142aru\u015bkalij, the Belarusian National Youth Union, the Belarusian Red Cross and others are suspected of involvement in these transfers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In February 2024, Ta\u0142aj and his foundation were included in the 13th package of European Union sanctions against Russia. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Paralympian was also included in the US sanctions list marking two years since the beginning of the war in Ukraine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarusian officials have flatly rejected the accusations of deportation of Ukrainian children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
