August 7, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Performance artist Alaksiej Ku\u017ami\u010d is on a hunger strike at the deportation center where he has been held after his performance at Vincent van Gogh’s grave, his Facebook page said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A French court has ruled to leave Ku\u017ami\u010d in custody for another 26 days. Ku\u017ami\u010d argued that his detention was unjustified and his rights were violated. He also accused authorities of torture. According to his social media account, the artist hallucinated in a solitary confinement cell with shiny tiles, flickering lights and noisy ventilation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The artist was arrested on July 29 following a scandalous performance on van Gogh\u2019s grave in Auvers-sur-Oise, north of Paris.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A judge from the Parisian suburb of Pontoise ruled to deport him to Belarus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He was also fined \u20ac3,000 and given one-month suspended prison sentence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
