August 9, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> The US Department of the Treasury has imposed sanctions<\/a> on 19 individuals, 14 entities and Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka\u2019s aircraft, a luxury Boeing 737.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis action targets persons involved in supporting Russia\u2019s war in Ukraine through military resource production and transshipment of goods to Russia, sanctions evasion on behalf of Belarusian defense entities, and revenue generation for Belarusian oligarchs in Alyaksandr Lukashenka\u2019s inner circle,\u201d the Treasury\u2019s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAs Belarus marks another year under Lukashenka\u2019s rule, the regime\u2019s blatantly corrupt, destabilizing, and anti-democratic acts\u2014along with its continued support for Russia\u2019s illegal invasion of Ukraine\u2014have only further ostracized Belarus from the global community,\u201d said Acting Under Secretary of the Treasury for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence Bradley T. Smith. \u201cThe United States, in coordination with our allies and partners, remains committed to holding the regime and its key facilitators accountable.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the wake of the fraudulent August 2020 presidential election, \u0141uka\u0161enka resorted to brutal crackdowns on peaceful protesters, democratic organizations and journalists in order to illegitimately retain power, OFAC said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since then, \u0141uka\u0161enka\u2019s actions have eroded Belarusian civil society and enabled Lukashenka, his family, and his inner circle to enrich themselves at the expense of Belarus\u2019s citizens and sovereignty, it added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Department of State also took steps to impose visa restrictions on 19 regime officials and their affiliates for their involvement in undermining democracy in Belarus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
