August 10, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Last night, the United Kingdom, the European Union, Canada and the United States, who had announced new sanction packages against Belarusian authorities, issued a joint statement dedicated to the fourth anniversary of Belarus’ disputed presidential election.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Four years on from the fraudulent 2020 presidential election and the appalling human rights crackdown in Belarus, the United States of America, Canada, the United Kingdom and the European Union stand in solidarity with the people of Belarus who, in spite of continued repression by the \u0141uka\u0161enka regime, have peacefully and courageously pressed for democratic change, respect for human rights, and the release of all political prisoners,” the statement said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The parties said the new sanctions “represent a coordinated, multilateral effort to advance accountability for the \u0141uka\u0161enka regime.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They called for the immediate and unconditional release of “the almost 1,400 political prisoners being held in Belarusian prisons” and affirmed that they will continue to consider various options, ” including additional sanctions, to hold accountable those who enable the \u0141uka\u0161enka regime’s suppression of democracy in Belarus.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The signees pledged to continue “to take meaningful steps to expose and cut off the flow of crucial support and components through Belarus that fuel Russia\u2019s unprovoked war against Ukraine, while maintaining our support for the Belarusian people.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The EU announced the new sanctions on August 5. The UK, USA and Canada, on August 9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
