Although 100,000 is an unrealistic number, the maneuvers are likely to involve several times more troops and items of hardware than the previous year\u2019s Zapad 2021. <\/b>\n<\/p>\n<p> <b> <\/b><\/p>\n<p>\n\t Zianon Pazniak, an exiled Belarusian politician, lashed out at the Belarusian ruler earlier this week for allegedly allowing Russian troops to occupy Belarus. He said that Russia is expected to deploy up to 100,000 troops and hundreds of items of hardware.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t Luka\u0161enka struck back against the charges on January 24. He said that he would never let anyone to occupy his country. He accused Pazniak of exaggerating the extent of Russian deployment but would not specify how many troops and items of equipment were expected to arrive.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t Live. Community of Belarusian Rail Workers, an opposition Telegram channel, said that the Russian military had ordered 200 trains, 50 cars each to deliver troops and equipment to Belarus.\n<\/p>\n<h2> <span>Parotnika\u016d: Russian troops can leave equipment for storage<\/span> <\/h2>\n<p>\n\t Belarusian and Russian generals say that troops and equipment involved in the exercise will not exceed the limits set out in Vienna Document 2011.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t Anrej Parotnika\u016d, of Belarus Security Blog, said that the scale of the exercise might exceed those limits \u201cno matter how much the sides might assert the contrary.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t Russia may dispatch up to six times more troops than some 2,500 soldiers deployed for Zapad 2021, he said. In all, last year\u2019s maneuvers involved 12,800 troops, 350 armored vehicles and more than 30 aircraft.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t If reports are true that the Russian military has booked 200 trains to transport troops and materiel, one can assume that Russia transports its hardware for storage under the pretext of the exercise, he told BPN.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t It might establish a forward storage area under the umbrella of one of its military facilities in Belarus, he said.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t Belarus currently hosts only two Russian facilities, a Volga missile attack early warning radar station near Hancavi\u010dy, Brest region, and a submarine communication post near Viliejka, Minsk region.\n<\/p>\n<h2> <span>Aliesin: Up to 10,000 Russian soldiers may be deployed<\/span> <\/h2>\n<p>\n\t It takes up to ten trains to deliver about 800 soldiers and their equipment, said Aliaksandr Aliesin, a Belarusian military analyst. Russian unofficial military sources estimate that that the exercise may involve up to 10,000 Russian troops, according to Aliesin.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t The drill is about demonstrating the infrastructure capacity to transport large numbers of troops and heavy equipment across long distances, Aliesin said.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t Troops and equipment are transported by day \u201cso that American satellites will be able to count them\u201d as Moscow tries to force Ukraine and NATO into accepting its conditions, he said, referring to the Kremlin\u2019s demand that NATO stop expanding eastward and provide guarantees that it will not set up US bases in former Soviet republics.\n<\/p>\n<h2> <span>Luka\u0161enka playing with fire<\/span> <\/h2>\n<p>\n\t Luka\u0161enka let himself to become entangled into Vladimir Putin\u2019s muscle-flexing exercise, hoping to wring major concessions out of the Kremlin. However, this is a big gamble.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t Even if Putin decides against attacking Ukraine, the affair will leave Luka\u0161enka with increased Russian military presence in Belarus.
