{"id":1201,"date":"2023-08-01T11:35:00","date_gmt":"2023-08-01T08:35:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/api.pozirk.online\/?post_type=longreads&#038;p=1201"},"modified":"2026-02-24T20:40:57","modified_gmt":"2026-02-24T20:40:57","slug":"eu-stops-record-number-of-illegal-migrants-at-belarus-border-in-july","status":"publish","type":"longreads","link":"https:\/\/pozirk.online\/en\/longreads\/1201\/","title":{"rendered":"EU stops record number of illegal migrants at Belarus border in July"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>August 1,&nbsp;<em>BPN<\/em>.<\/strong>&nbsp;The European Union (EU) has not allowed at least 262 migrants to enter illegally from Belarus over the past day, with July being&nbsp;the busiest month&nbsp;for border guards so far this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Lithuanian State Border Guard Service&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/vsat.lrv.lt\/lt\/naujienos\/neileistu-neteisetu-migrantu-statistika\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">recorded<\/a>&nbsp;nine illegal attempts to cross the border on July 31, while their Latvian colleagues thwarted 43 attempts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Polish Border Guard&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Straz_Graniczna\/status\/1686267386406576128\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">said<\/a>&nbsp;that 210 foreigners, including nationals of Algeria, Afghanistan, India, Yemen, Morocco, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Syria and Ethiopia, tried to illegally cross the border from Belarus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since the start of 2023, the EU has recorded at least 24,274 attempts by illegal migrants to enter its territory from Belarus, with 17,558 attempts via Poland, 5,239 via Latvia and 1,477 via Lithuania. Illegal migrants attempted to cross the Belarusian-EU border as many as 5,054 times in July.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>BPN<\/em>&#8216;s analysis of daily stats indicated growing tension at the Belarusian-EU border, with Poland being the prime target. Illegal border crossing attempts rose from 1,989 in January and 1,970 in February to 4,719 in May and 3,701 in June.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The migration crisis at the Belarusian-EU border dates back to the spring of 2021. It escalated in November 2021, with thousands of migrants setting up a camp near the Polish border.
