November 17, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> French charg\u00e9 d’affaires Ludovic Royer met with the leaders of the Communist Party of Belarus and Republican Party of Labor and Justice on November 13.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The diplomat inquired them about their manifestos and goals ahead of the 2024 parliamentary elections, the French embassy in Belarus said today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Communist leader Alaksiej Soka\u0142 and Labor leader Alaksandar Chi\u017eniak presented their vision of Belarus’ development in various areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Authorities disbanded 10 opposition, loyalist, or inert alliances in the summer and fall: the Conservative Christian Party, Belarusian Patriotic Party, Belarusian Greens Party, Belarusian Social Democratic Hramada, Republican Party, Social Democratic Party of Popular Accord, Belarusian Popular Front, United Civic Party, Belarusian Social Sports Party, and Belarusian Social Democratic Party (Hramada).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The pro-government Belarusian Agrarian Party filed for dissolution in early September.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The authorities granted re-registration to the Bie\u0142aja Ru\u015b party of Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka’s supporters, as well as the pro-government Communist Party of Belarus, Liberal Democratic Party, and Republican Party of Labor and Justice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In late 2022, Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka called for disbanding parties whose activities run counter to \u201cthe basic principles of internal and foreign policy.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In February 2023, he signed a law requiring all parties to re-register based on strict membership criteria. Justice Minister Siarhiej Chamienka said that the number of political parties in Belarus will drop from fifteen to three or four after the re-registration campaign.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
