Bie\u0142stat reported a 12-fold rise in pay from 1995 to 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The US dollar equivalent, however, rose fivefold. The dollar equivalent of pay rose nearly eightfold in Russia, while salaries (in euro terms) increased 12-fold in Latvia and nearly 15-fold in Lithuania in the same period. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Pay rise from 1995 to 2023, US dollar and euro equivalent<\/strong><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-wp-embed is-provider-flourish wp-block-embed-flourish\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe class=\"wp-embedded-content\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts\" security=\"restricted\" title=\"Interactive or visual content\" src=\"https:\/\/flo.uri.sh\/visualisation\/17715399\/embed#?secret=1l1tg04JNa\" data-secret=\"1l1tg04JNa\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" height=\"575\" width=\"500\"><\/iframe>\n<\/div><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Source: Bie\u0142stat, Rosstat, Eurostat<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>\u0141uka\u0161enka claimed that the economies of Lithuania and Latvia are &#8220;rolling downhill&#8221; with GDP down 1 percent last year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What he did not say is that salaries in these countries rose by 12 percent and 13 percent, respectively. In Estonia, GDP fell by 3.5 percent, while pay rose by 11 percent to \u20ac1,832.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Belarusians\u2019 nominal average monthly pay (before taxes) rose by 16.7 percent to 1,902 rubels ($598 at the exchange rate on December 28) last year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, the purchasing power of wages decreased amid price hikes in Belarus, while in Lithuania and Latvia inflation was much lower.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Despite claimed achievements, people leaving Belarus<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>\u0141uka\u0161enka credited himself with many other achievements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;We have preserved and increased our industrial potential. MAZ, BelAZ, MTZ, Homsielma\u0161 and others,&#8221; he said. This may be true, but Belarusian goods are struggling to compete, even in Russia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;The Belarusian nuclear power plant is our big brand.&#8221; True, but when talking about benefits, he emphasized only a reduction in greenhouse emissions, not in energy intensity of the economy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Minsk-Po\u0142ack-Viciebsk highway is good, he said, but he would not say that it was renovated with financial and technical assistance from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u0141uka\u0161enka wants people to be proud of factories, houses, theaters and hospitals.
