Belarusian general urges preparation for open conflict with NATO

August 18, Pozirk. Air/Air Defense Commander Andrej Łukjanovič has asserted the need to prepare for “an open confrontation” between Belarus and Russia on the one side and NATO on the other.
The statement comes amid Ukraine’s offensive in the Kursk province of Russia.
Łukjanovič told STV that the Belarusian military registers 30–40 NATO reconnaissance flights a week and up to 30 tactical flights a day. During exercises, their number can reach 50, with pilots working out “combat tactics and strikes on the Kaliningrad province and the Republic of Belarus,” he said.
The Union State of Russia and Belarus relies on a common air defense system.
On August 12, the Belarusian Air/Air Defense Forces sent troops to Russia for a joint live-fire exercise at the Ashuluk training range.
The drill was organized to improve unit cohesion and teach servicemen tactics and ways of conducting air and anti-aircraft combat, according to official reports.
