Prosecutor discusses extradition of Belarusians with Armenian counterpart

October 3, Pozirk. Belarusian Prosecutor General Andrej Švied has raised the issue of extradition of Belarusians accused or convicted of crimes at a meeting with his Armenian counterpart Anna Vardapetyan in Yerevan, Švied’s office reported.
The meeting comes one month after the Armenian Prosecutor General’s Office ordered a Belarusian opposition activist’s release despite a request from Minsk to extradite to Belarus.
The Armenian Prosecutor General’s Office has not mentioned in its press statement that Švied raised the extradition.
“Anna Vardapetyan and Andrej Švied discussed several issues of mutual interest,” it said.
The Belarusian Prosecutor General’s Office said that Švied and Vardapetyas discussed mutual legal assistance in criminal cases and exchanged experience in organizing prosecutorial oversight to protect citizens’ rights and legitimate interests.
The Belarusian delegation arrived in Yerevan for the CIS prosecutors’ Coordination Council meeting. The agenda includes crime in the CIS, legal cooperation, the fight against corruption and the rule of law.
Armenia refused to extradite Belarusians wanted for political reasons to Belarus several times in 2024.
