Moscow to let Łukašenka use nukes if Ukraine attacks Belarus – Medvedev

October 6, Pozirk. Moscow will allow Alaksandar Łukašenka to use Russian tactical nuclear weapons deployed in Belarus in response to a Ukrainian attack on the country, Dmitry Medvedev, deputy head of the Russian Security Council, has said on Telegram.

Medvedev’s post is linked to the recent statement by Ukrainian MP Oleh Dunda that a Ukrainian operation in Belarus would be a major blow to Moscow.

Last week, Vladimir Putin said that Russia would consider using nuclear weapons in response to an attack on its ally Belarus. “We have agreed on all these issues with Belarus and its president, including on an enemy critically threatening our sovereignty with conventional weapons,” the Kremlin quoted him as saying.

Minsk allowed Russia to deploy tactical nuclear munitions in Belarus last spring.

In late 2023, Łukašenka confirmed their delivery. A CIA report leaked earlier this year suggested that nukes might be stored in the Mahiloŭ region.
