Opposition leader congratulates Moldova’s President Sandu on re-election

November 4, Pozirk. Yesterday’s presidential election in Moldova was a victory for democracy and Europe, Belarusian opposition leader Śviatłana Cichanoŭskaja has said in her congratulatory message to the re-elected pro-EU President Maia Sandu.
“Your strong leadership is guiding Moldova towards its European future,” the politician said on X. “The people of Belarus share the same commitment to freedom and the right to shape our own destiny.”
Sandu, who faced pro-Russian candidate Alexandr Stoianoglo in the runoff, won by a margin of about 55.4 percent to 44.6 percent. The politician also won the first round held on October 20, when Moldovans backed constitutional amendments reaffirming their country’s EU aspirations.
In the fall of 2022, Moldovan MPs set up a parliamentary group supporting a democratic Belarus. Cichanoŭskaja visited Chișinău a year later at Sandu’s invitation.
